چکیده

Background Neuropeptide Y is a highly conserved 36 amino acid peptide that is widely distributed in the peripheral and central nervous systems. Besides its functions in various metabolic processes, NPY has attracted considerable attention in modulating emotional-affective behavior. NPY exerts a solid anxiolytic effect most likely mediated by Y1 receptors, whereas stimulation of predominantly pre-synaptic Y2 receptors results in increased anxiety. However, little is known about an involvement of NPY in processing of fear.

The role of neuropeptide Y in the expression and extinction of fear-potentiated startle.

Neuropeptides are a promising target for novel treatments for anxiety and other psychiatric disorders and neuropeptide Y (NPY) has emerged as a key component of anxiolytic circuits in the brain. For this reason, we have evaluated the role of NPY in the expression and extinction of conditioned fear. We found that intracerebroventricular administration of NPY inhibits both baseline acoustic start...

Role of Amygdala-Infralimbic Cortex Circuitry in Glucocorticoid-induced Facilitation of Auditory Fear Memory Extinction

Introduction: The basolateral amygdala (BLA) and infralimbic area (IL) of the medial prefrontal cortex (mPFC) are two interconnected brain structures that mediate both fear memory expression and extinction. Besides the well-known role of the BLA in the acquisition and expression of fear memory, projections from IL to BLA inhibit fear expression and have a critical role in fear extinction. Howev...

NPY controls fear conditioning and fear extinction by combined action on Y1 and Y2 receptors

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Neuropeptide Y (NPY) and its receptors have been implicated in the control of emotional-affective processing, but the mechanism is unclear. While it is increasingly evident that stimulation of Y₁ and inhibition of Y₂ receptors produce prominent anxiolytic and antidepressant effects, the contribution of the individual NPY receptor subtypes in the acquisition and extinction...

Effect of WIN55-212-2 and Consequences of Extinction Training on Conditioned Fear Memory in PTSD Male Rats

Introduction: This study investigates the effects of cannabinoid agonist WIN55-212-2 on acquisition and consolidation phases of the fear memory extinction and also on anxiety and motor activity. Methods: In this study, we used SPS & S model to induce post-traumatic stress disorder. One week after SPS, to establish a conditioned fear memory, rats received an electric foot shock within shock cha...

Pulsed electromagnetic field attenuated PTSD-induced failure of conditioned fear extinction

Objective(s): This study aimed to determine whether exposure to pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) can impair behavioral failure as induced by PTSD, and also its possible effects on hippocampal neurogenesis. PEMF was used as a non-invasive therapeutic tool in psychiatry.Materials and Methods: Male rats were divided into Control-Sham exp...
